Concentrations of Credit and Business Risk

Financial instruments that potentially subject us to a concentration of credit risk consist of cash and cash equivalents and accounts receivable.

As of June 30, 2018 and 2017, we maintain our cash and cash equivalents primarily with major U.S. financial institutions and foreign banks. Deposits with these institutions at times exceed the federally insured limits, which potentially subjects us to concentration of credit risk. We have not historically experienced any losses related to these balances and believe that there is minimal risk of any such losses.

As of June 30, 2018, approximately $26.2 million of our total cash and cash equivalents of $37.4 million was held by our foreign subsidiaries. If we repatriate these funds for use in our U.S. operations, we may be required to pay income taxes in the U.S. on the repatriated amount at the tax rates then in effect, reducing the net cash proceeds to us after repatriation. In the event we elect to repatriate any of these funds, we believe we have sufficient net operating losses for the foreseeable future to offset any repatriated income. As a result, we do not expect that any such repatriation would create a tax liability in the U.S. or have a material impact on our effective tax rate.
