The Gasparilla Parade is the third largest parade in the United States following only the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Rose Bowl Parade. More than 200,000 people watched more than 380 floats in this year's event.
The Tampa PD sent more than 17,000 SMS messages during the parade as part of their operational control procedures to more than 1,000 officers in the crowd, including personnel with other federal, state and local law enforcement, fire and emergency medical services.
